UX and visual design for the mobile-first digital experience for Paul Salopek’s epic, seven-year walk retracing the migration of our human ancestors across the globe. The primary objective of the project was to present the writer’s geographical data and rich content in a way that orients users within the journey regardless of when they join the digital experience. Users are able to select from a map view or a narrative view to access Paul’s dispatches and milestones (snapshots of the journey taken every 100 miles in the form of photos, video, and interviews with locals) and participate in a community of people who are likewise interested in the journey and its educational value.
Large-screen experience, showing narrative timeline in conjunction with map view. Interaction with one would affect the placement and position of the other.
